News Capsule: Sugar Prices Edge Up in Uttar Pradesh; Maharashtra Market Remains Steady
★ Sugar prices in Uttar Pradesh rose by ₹15–20 per 100 kg as demand improved after recent price cuts, lifting rates in western and central UP to ₹3,910–4,050 per 100 kg.
★ Resale market prices also gained ₹5 per 100 kg.
★ In Maharashtra, prices remained unchanged as buying stayed need-based, with Mumbai rates at ₹3,970–4,053 and Kolhapur at ₹3,760–3,820 per 100 kg.
★ Demand has remained weak in April due to rainfall, as traders avoid holding stocks because moisture can damage sugar.
★ Globally, higher Brazilian production and weaker crude oil prices are keeping pressure on sugar markets.
