News Capsule: Canada sees rise in pea and lentil exports
★ Exports of pulses from Canada are showing an upward trend in the 2025–26 marketing season. According to the latest data from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC), bulk loadings of peas and lentils have increased compared to last year.
★ As per CGC, around 296,000 metric tonnes of field peas were loaded for export in February 2026. This has pushed total pea loadings for the current season to 1.486 million tonnes, about 6% higher than 1.398 million tonnes recorded during the same period last year.
★ For lentils, February loadings stood at 127,600 metric tonnes. Cumulative lentil loadings so far in the marketing year have reached 876,700 tonnes, compared to 833,800 tonnes during the corresponding period last year. In February 2025, lentil shipments were 113,400 tonnes, indicating a modest increase this year.
★ It is important to note that these figures include only shipments from licensed terminals and primary elevators that report to the CGC. Exports from containers and non-reporting locations are not included.
★ The rise in pea and lentil loadings reflects steady global demand and highlights Canada’s strong position in the international pulses market.
