Malaysia Raises Export Duty on Crude Palm Oil

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has announced an increase in the export duty on crude palm oil (CPO) for April 2026. The duty has been raised to 9.5%, up from 9% in March.

According to the official statement, the base price of Malaysian CPO for April 2026 has been set at 3,935.19 ringgit ($999.29) per tonne, compared to 3,896.09 ringgit ($998.23) per tonne in March. With the revised structure, the export duty for April will be approximately $94.93 per tonne, which is about 5.67% higher than the previous month.

Market analysts believe that the higher export duty will push up Malaysia’s CPO offer prices in the global market, potentially affecting export competitiveness and shipment volumes.

As a result, palm oil inventories in Malaysia could rise further, adding to already elevated stock levels. Weak export demand combined with increasing stocks may exert downward pressure on prices.

Currently, Malaysia is in its seasonal low production phase. If exports remain subdued during this period, it could create additional challenges for the palm oil industry in the coming months.
