ISMA also reduced sugar production estimate
★ ISMA has revised its sugar production estimate for the current season to 27.27 million tonnes, down from last year's 31.96 million tonnes. Earlier, ISMA had projected 33.3 million tonnes total production, with 3.75 million tonnes used for ethanol and 29.55 million tonnes for food consumption. Recently, AISTA estimated 26.52 million tonnes, showing a significant difference from ISMA's prediction.
★ According to ISMA, excessive rainfall in parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka affected productivity, while diseases in Uttar Pradesh's sugarcane crop caused the most damage. The revised estimate is based on satellite data and modern technology. By January 31, 2025, sugar production reached 16.5 million tonnes, compared to 18.72 million tonnes last year.
★ As for the supply balance, with 1 million tonnes of exports, 28 million tonnes of consumption, and 31.02 million tonnes of availability, there could be a stock of 6.25 million tonnes of sugar by September 30, 2025.
