India’s Corn Exports to Rise: Iran War, Competitive Prices and Record Output Support Growth – USDA
★ India’s corn (maize) exports are likely to increase to 0.65 million tonnes (6.5 lakh tonnes) in the 2025-26 marketing year. The Iran war, competitive pricing, strong regional demand and record production are supporting exports.
★ According to the USDA, the export estimate has been raised from 0.35 million tonnes to 0.65 million tonnes. During October–December 2025, India exported around 0.4 million tonnes (4 lakh tonnes), nearly double compared to the past two years.
★ Indian corn is being offered to Bangladesh at $220-230/tonne, cheaper than Brazil’s $260/tonne, boosting demand. Fresh enquiries are also coming from Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
★ Production is estimated at 43 million tonnes (430 lakh tonnes) by USDA. As per India’s Agriculture Ministry, kharif output is pegged at 30.25 million tonnes (302.5 lakh tonnes) and rabi at 15.9 million tonnes (159 lakh tonnes).
★ Domestic prices are seeing slight firmness due to delayed crop arrivals in Bihar, while good harvests in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are ensuring adequate supply.
★ Changes in ethanol policy are also influencing the market. Earlier, corn use in ethanol had increased, but with improved rice availability, demand has shifted away from corn, supporting exports.
★ With competitive prices, strong demand and record production, India’s corn exports are on a positive trajectory, strengthening its position in South and Southeast Asia.
