India Exports 3.15 Lakh Tonnes Sugar in Oct–Feb; UAE Emerges as Top Buyer
India exported about 3.15 lakh tonnes of sugar during October–February of the current 2025–26 sugar marketing year (October–September). According to the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the largest importer during this period.
Out of the total shipments, around 2.58 lakh tonnes were white sugar, while about 0.54 lakh tonnes were refined sugar.
Among the export destinations, the UAE imported around 0.80 lakh tonnes, followed by Afghanistan with 0.72 lakh tonnes, Djibouti with 0.46 lakh tonnes, and Tanzania with about 0.21 lakh tonnes.
The government has allowed total sugar exports of 20 lakh tonnes for the 2025–26 season, including an additional quota of 5 lakh tonnes approved recently.
Meanwhile, due to adverse weather affecting yields in key producing states, India’s sugar production estimate has been revised downward to 283 lakh tonnes from the earlier estimate of 296 lakh tonnes.
