New Delhi. Providing significant relief to wheat commission agents (*Arhtiyas*), the Central Government has increased their commission by over 10 percent.
This hike has been implemented in states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, where substantial quantities of wheat are procured for the Central Pool. This increase in commission will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
Until now, wheat commission agents in Punjab and Haryana were receiving a commission at the rate of ₹46 per quintal; for the upcoming Rabi marketing season, this rate has been increased by 10.32 percent and fixed at ₹50.75 per quintal.
Similarly, in Rajasthan, the commission for wheat agents has been raised by 10.32 percent—from ₹41.40 per quintal—and fixed at ₹45.67 per quintal. This move will provide relief to the commission agents.
The agents had been demanding an increase in their commission rates ever since the substantial hike of ₹160 per quintal in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat—a demand which the government has now accepted.
Although the government has projected that domestic wheat production for the 2025-26 Rabi season will rise to an all-time high of 1,202.10 lakh tonnes, it has, however, reduced the procurement target for the crop, fixing it at 303 lakh tonnes.
The wheat procurement targets have been lowered in key contributing states such as Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
