New Delhi. Data from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), a subordinate body of the Union Ministry of Commerce, shows that the export performance of peanuts and guar gum from India was better in the first half of the current financial year as compared to last year.
According to the available data, about 2.88 lakh tonnes of peanuts were exported from the country in the half year of April-September 2024, which was 33 thousand tonnes more than the shipment of 2.55 lakh tonnes in the same period of the year 2023.
But due to the average unit export offer price being low, the export income of peanuts fell by $ 50 million or 1.4 percent from $ 346 million last year to $ 341 million in the current year.
But the export of guar gum registered an increase in both quantity and income. In April-September 2023, a little over 2.16 lakh tonnes of guar gum was exported,
which improved to 2.27 lakh tonnes in April-September 2024. During the period under review, the export earnings of guar gum also increased from $259 million to $21 million or 8.23 percent to $28 million.
There was some improvement in the export performance with the help of Rabi season groundnut. Now Kharif season goods have started arriving from October 2024, so exports are expected to be better in the second half.
New guar crop is also arriving while global export demand for guar gum is expected to remain strong. The performance of the second half is to be better.
