Vancouver. Driven by strong arrivals from the new harvest, substantial carry-over stocks, and large-scale purchases by major importing nations—including India—total pea exports from Canada surged to 555,108 tonnes in September 2026. This marks a significant increase from the 148,459 tonnes shipped in August.
In September, Canada exported 242,980 tonnes of peas to India, 189,093 tonnes to China, and 37,380 tonnes to Pakistan. The disruption and insecurity of the Black Sea shipping route have severely hampered pea exports from Russia and Ukraine, providing Canada with an excellent opportunity to expand its own exports.
As a result of this strong performance in September, total pea exports from Canada for the first two months of the current marketing season (August 2026 – July 2027) reached approximately 704,000 tonnes—well above the 571,000 tonnes recorded during the same period (August–September) in 2025.
Although pea production in Canada has declined this year—due to a reduction in sown area and less-than-ideal weather conditions, which also affected grain quality—the availability and supply of peas remain stable, supported by large carry-over stocks.
