High Yield Rates and Excellent Quality for Australian Cotton

Adelaide. In the Australian states of Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales, vigorous harvesting and processing of the new cotton crop are currently underway, and the pace is now accelerating in the southern valleys as well. Across all regions, both cotton yield rates and quality are being observed to be high.
According to a report by the Australian Cotton Shippers Association, the country's total cotton production for the current year is expected to reach between 4.3 and 4.5 million bales.
This figure represents a decline of approximately one million bales compared to the previous year. This reduction is primarily attributed to a severe 50 percent contraction in the cotton sowing area in certain regions—caused by water scarcity and adverse weather conditions—where crop health also remained poor.
However, according to analysts, indications suggest that strong yield rates in other regions will lead to an improvement in overall cotton production, thereby limiting the extent of the decline in national-level output. Currently, weather conditions remain favorable.
While adverse weather during the 2024 and 2025 harvest seasons had previously impacted cotton quality, the quality this season is exceptionally good. Consequently, growers and exporters are optimistic about securing premium prices for their cotton. India, too, imports cotton from Australia.
