This time a target of 60 lakh ton wheat procurement was set in Madhya Pradesh whereas the actual procurement has been 1.45 lakh ton more than that and the procurement process is still going on. The procurement performance is also going well in other major producing states.

This time the Food Ministry has set a target of 124 lakh ton wheat procurement in Punjab, 75 lakh ton in Haryana, 30 lakh ton in Uttar Pradesh and 20 lakh ton in Rajasthan.

Apart from this, a target has been set to procure 2 lakh ton in Bihar, 1 lakh ton in Gujarat, 50 thousand ton in Uttarakhand and 10 thousand ton each in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

As compared to the set target, so far 72 percent wheat has been procured in Punjab, 83 percent in Haryana, 102 percent in Madhya Pradesh, 22 percent in Uttar Pradesh and 50 percent in Rajasthan whereas in other states wheat procurement has been between 2 to 10 percent.

In Punjab too, private purchase of wheat is more than last year. Government purchase of wheat will take place in Punjab-Haryana till 15th May.
