Good progress in sowing of Kharif crops in Rajasthan

Jaipur. In the western state of Rajasthan, major Kharif crops include millet, moong, soybean, groundnut, guar, and cotton, while paddy, sorghum, maize, moth, urad, and sesame are also cultivated.

Rajasthan is the leading producer of millet, moong, and guar in the country. It ranks second in groundnut production and third in soybean production. It is also the top producer of moth.

According to the latest weekly data from the State Agriculture Department, the total area under Kharif crops in Rajasthan has reached 32.84 lakh hectares.

This includes 13.53 lakh hectares under cereal crops, 4.84 lakh hectares under pulses, 6.59 lakh hectares under oilseeds, 5.50 lakh hectares under cotton, and 1.33 lakh hectares under guar. Sowing activity for Kharif crops is expected to continue for an extended period in the state.

In the food grains category, the area under paddy has reached 26 thousand hectares, sorghum 78 thousand hectares, millet 10.58 lakh hectares, and maize 1.91 lakh hectares.

In the pulses category, moong has been sown in 4.04 lakh hectares, moth in 56 thousand hectares, and urad in 9 thousand hectares.

Among oilseeds, sesame covers 17 thousand hectares, groundnut 4.62 lakh hectares, and soybean 1.79 lakh hectares. The guar crop has been sown in 1.33 lakh hectares.

Last year, during the entire Kharif season, crops were sown in a total area of 162.54 lakh hectares in Rajasthan. This included 60.19 lakh hectares under cereals, 37.06 lakh hectares under pulses, 25.14 lakh hectares under oilseeds,

6.27 lakh hectares under cotton, 29.83 lakh hectares under guar (cluster bean), and 6 thousand hectares under sugarcane. This trend indicates that sowing will continue for a long time in Rajasthan this season as well.
