Ottawa. The data given by the government agency - Stats Can in its report released in August shows that there was fluctuation in the outstanding stock of some important agricultural products in Canada during July 2024 as compared to July 2023. It is known that the new marketing season has formally started there from August.

According to the data received, in July 2024, as compared to July 2023, the surplus stock of barley in Canada increased from 7.08 lakh tonnes to 12.22 lakh tonnes, the stock of canola (rapeseed) jumped from 18.53 lakh tonnes to 30.92 lakh tonnes and the stock of durum wheat improved from 5.74 lakh tonnes to 5.76 lakh tonnes. On the other hand,

during the same period, the stock of lentils fell from 2.11 lakh tonnes to 1.79 lakh tonnes, the stock of peas fell from 5.50 lakh tonnes to 3.48 lakh tonnes, the stock of rye slipped from 1.05 lakh tonnes to 94 thousand tonnes and the total stock of wheat fell from 56.25 lakh tonnes to 45.83 lakh tonnes.

Last year, the weather conditions in Canada were not good due to which the production of wheat, canola, lentils and peas decreased and the prices reached a very high level.

In comparison, this time the weather was better, which indicates the production of these commodities.

The market price has softened due to the possibility of increased production of lentils and peas, which can give Canada a good opportunity to increase its export.

Canada is jointly the world's largest producer and exporter of peas and lentils and now India remains its largest buyer.

Despite the low outstanding stock, good availability of pulses in Canada can be maintained with the help of better production.
