Due to weak export demand, the prices of red chili have seen a significant decline.
★ Prices have dropped by over 35% in 2025 compared to January 2024.
★ Export demand has cooled down, with only 36,276 tons of red chili exported in September, less than last year and the previous month.
★ According to the Spice Board of India, 3.31 lakh tons of red chili were exported from April to October, compared to 3 lakh tons during the same period in 2023.
★ Farmers have demanded government intervention, with many storing their produce in cold storage but being forced to sell due to lack of price.
★ Global red chili production stands at 58.22 lakh tons, with India contributing 27.82 lakh tons. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rank second and third. Many farmers have protested in various regions.
