ICE cotton futures ended Friday with nearby contracts declining by 7 to 129 points, while deferred contracts gained 3 to 4 points. The December contract finished the week 135 points higher. Crude oil prices fell by US$1.72 per barrel, while the US Dollar Index eased by 0.024 points.
Friday’s Commitment of Traders (COT) report showed that managed money increased its net long position in cotton futures and options by 3,525 contracts during the week ending July 21, bringing the total net long position to 53,209 contracts.
Export Sales data showed that total 2025/26 cotton export commitments have reached 12.003 million running bales (RB), representing 102% of the USDA’s export projection, with only two reporting weeks remaining in the current marketing year. New crop sales have reached 2.526 million RB, up 28.05% compared with the same period last year.
According to NOAA’s 7-day precipitation forecast, much of Texas (TX) is expected to receive very limited rainfall, while parts of Alabama (AL), Georgia (GA), and areas along the US East Coast could receive between 1 and 2 inches of rainfall.
The Cotlook A Index rose by another 75 points on 23 July to 90.35 cents per pound. ICE-certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 94,235 bales. Meanwhile, the Adjusted World Price (AWP) was reduced by 155 points to 63.82 cents per pound, and this level will remain effective through next week.
