ICE cotton futures traded lower on Tuesday. Most contracts recovered from their lows into the close but still finished down 27 to 46 points. Crude oil prices fell $3.90, while the US Dollar Index declined 0.089 points.
According to the weekly Crop Progress report, as of Sunday, 81% of the US cotton crop had set bolls, while 20% had reached the boll-opening stage. Crop conditions were down 1 percentage point at 37% good to excellent. The Brugler500 index fell another 6 points to 304. Texas ratings declined another 10 points to 262, while Georgia remained unchanged.
According to The Seam, 689 bales were sold on August 24 at an average price of 89 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was unchanged on Monday at 98.20 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks were also unchanged on August 24 at 68,894 bales. The Adjusted World Price increased by 143 points last week to 69.62 cents per pound.
