New Delhi: According to information received from producing states, the coriander crop is in good condition in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh so far, but recent rains have reportedly damaged the crop in Rajasthan.
Gujarat
In the major producing state of Gujarat, the coriander crop is in good condition due to favorable weather. Arrivals of new coriander have already started in the markets. In the major market of Gondal, arrivals of new produce are 2300/2500 bags, and in Rajkot, 1200/1500 bags. Prices for new produce are being quoted at Rs. 1500/2200 per 20 kg, depending on quality. It is noteworthy that the area under coriander cultivation in the state this year is approximately 4,000 hectares less than last year.
Madhya Pradesh
Recent rains in Kumbhraj, Guna, Binaganj, and Ashoknagar areas of Madhya Pradesh have not caused any significant damage to the coriander crop. Sources say that due to late rains this year, there was a delay of 15/20 days in sowing. This will benefit the earlier sown crop. However, there is a possibility of 5/10 percent damage to the previously sown crop. It is noteworthy that last year, coriander was sown on approximately 1.60 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh. During the current season, a 10/15 percent decrease in the sown area is estimated.
Rajasthan
In addition to a decrease in sowing area, recent rains in Rajasthan have reportedly caused 10/15 percent damage to the coriander crop. Damage has been reported in Kota, Baran, and Ramganj areas due to the recent rains. Furthermore, a 10/15 percent decrease in the sown area is also estimated. Last year, coriander was sown on approximately 47,000 hectares in Rajasthan. Sources believe that if the weather remains unfavorable in the coming days, the coriander crop in Madhya Pradesh may also be damaged. Due to weak sowing, coriander production will also be lower this year. This is why prices haven't fallen significantly.
