Coconut and Copra Prices Likely to Strengthen Due to Festive Demand

Coimbatore: Prices of whole coconuts and copra (dried coconut kernels) are expected to remain firm and rise in the coming weeks, driven by festive demand. An analysis report by the Domestic and Export Market Intelligence Cell at the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, projects that copra prices at the Annamalai market will climb to ₹145–150 per kilogram by October 2026.

It is noteworthy that the demand for and consumption of coconuts and copra surge during festivals such as Durga Puja, Navratri, and Dussehra, with particularly strong demand in northern and eastern states. High demand continues around Diwali as well. Furthermore, a massive demand for coconuts is observed during the Chhath festival in regions including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.

India is the world's largest coconut producer, contributing over 30 percent to global production. According to the Union Ministry of Agriculture, coconut production in the country stood at 139.70 lakh tonnes during the 2024-25 season, with a cultivation area of ​​21.90 lakh hectares.
