Chickpea Harvest Nearing Completion in Canada

Saskatoon. Unseasonal rainfall initially hindered the harvesting of the new chickpea crop in Canada; however, the weather subsequently cleared, allowing farmers to complete the bulk of the harvest.

While chickpea production in Canada has declined compared to last year, substantial carryover stocks have ensured that overall supply and availability remain relatively stable.

Reports indicate that the quality of the chickpea crop has been significantly affected by the unseasonal rain, which may lead to a reduction in the stock available for export that meets premium quality standards.

There are also concerns regarding the quality of the existing carryover stocks. Market activity remains robust, with strong demand for chickpeas from several countries, including Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
