Canada Market Update (January 2025)
Chickpeas (Kabuli Chana)
Production: Estimated at 287,000 tons in 2024, down from 327,000 tons last year but up by 52% compared to the 2023 crop.
Exports: 12,500 tons exported in October.
Mexico: Sowing progress is slower than usual, with concerns about reduced area in 2025.
Prices: Old crop prices remain steady at $0.40–$0.41/lb FOB farm. Prices for the new crop are yet to be determined.
Peas
Market Trend: Stable start to the new year.
India: Extended zero-duty import policy until February, but due to lower domestic prices and previous large purchases from Canada and Russia, a price surge is unlikely.
Supply: Tightening in Canada and the U.S.
Prices:
Old crop yellow peas: $10.25–$10.75/bushel pickup farm
Green peas: $16.50–$17.00/bushel
New crop green peas: $12.00–$13.00/bushel
Lentils (Masoor)
Trading Activity: Slight increase post-holiday but minimal price changes.
