Canada Lentil Market: Prices Under Pressure Due to Higher Supply, Recovery Expected in 2026-27
2025-26 Season
★ Global lentil market is under pressure due to increased supply.
★ Canadian lentil exports are estimated to reach 2.1 million tonnes (21 lakh tonnes).
★ Exports during August–December stood at 1.03 million tonnes (10.3 lakh tonnes), down 6% YoY.
★ Carry-out stocks are forecast at a record 1.7 million tonnes (17 lakh tonnes), pushing average prices down to around $510/tonne.
★ In February, Saskatchewan prices:
★ Large green lentils ↓ by $10/tonne
★ Red lentils ↑ by $50/tonne
★ Premium of large greens over reds dropped sharply to $80/tonne (vs $465/tonne last year) due to ample supply.

2026-27 Season Outlook
★ Area expected to decline to 1.67 million hectares (16.7 lakh ha).
★ Production likely to fall to 2.35 million tonnes (23.5 lakh tonnes).
★ However, total supply may still rise 3% to 4.12 million tonnes (41.2 lakh tonnes) due to high opening stocks.
★ Exports projected at 2.2 million tonnes (22 lakh tonnes).

★ US lentil production is estimated at 0.479 million tonnes (4.79 lakh tonnes), up 17%.
★ Canadian exports to the US remain stable at around 0.032 million tonnes (0.32 lakh tonnes).
★ Currently, higher supply is keeping prices under pressure. However, lower production in 2026-27 is expected to gradually support the market and improve prices.
