Rohtak. During the current Rabi marketing season, total wheat arrivals in Haryana's *mandis* (markets) had risen to over 77 lakh tonnes by April 20. This figure exceeds the procurement target of 72 lakh tonnes set by the Ministry of Food by 5 lakh tonnes; however, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies have procured only 56.13 lakh tonnes of this quantity so far. According to official sources, only 35 percent—or 19.77 lakh tonnes—of this total procured quantity has been lifted (transported out) to date. The remaining stock continues to lie within the *mandis*.
According to available data, Sirsa recorded the highest volume of wheat arrivals this season, receiving 9.56 lakh tonnes. This was followed by Jind, which received 8.44 lakh tonnes, and Karnal, with 7.49 lakh tonnes. Karnal witnessed the highest volume of government procurement, with 6.56 lakh tonnes of wheat purchased, while government agencies procured 5.72 lakh tonnes in Kaithal and 5.55 lakh tonnes in Sirsa. Sonipat district recorded the lowest volume of government wheat procurement, totaling 3.30 lakh tonnes.
Last year, by April 20, government agencies had procured 47.15 lakh tonnes of wheat across the entire state of Haryana; this figure has risen by approximately 9 lakh tonnes this year, reaching 56.13 lakh tonnes. Last year, the state had set a government procurement target of 75 lakh tonnes,
whereas actual procurement reached 72.41 lakh tonnes. Total wheat arrivals during that period amounted to 75.61 lakh tonnes, with the remaining 3.20 lakh tonnes being procured by flour millers, processors, and private traders.
Wheat arrivals and procurement operations are currently ongoing in Haryana. Farmers are distressed by the massive stocks of wheat lying in the *mandis*, as the sluggish pace of lifting is creating difficulties for them in finding adequate space to store their produce.
