Weekly Crop Progress data showed that 87% of the U.S. soybean crop had been planted by Sunday, 7 percentage points ahead of the normal pace. Crop emergence reached 65%, which is 8 percentage points above average. Initial crop condition ratings showed 66% of the soybean crop in Good/Excellent condition, down 1 percentage point from the same week last year and below the market estimate of 68%.
This translated to a Brugler500 Index rating of 369, marking the lowest initial soybean rating in three years and the fourth-lowest opening rating in the last 13 years. The weakest ratings were recorded in Ohio (339), South Dakota (352), and Indiana (356), while Iowa (393) and Wisconsin (390) reported the strongest conditions.
NOAA's 7-day weather outlook calls for approximately half an inch of rainfall across much of the Western Corn Belt, while most eastern regions are expected to receive less than one inch, except for northern Illinois and Wisconsin.
