Sowing of crops completed in 77 per cent area in Saskatchewan province

Saskatoon. Sowing of spring crops is still going on vigorously in Saskatchewan, Canada's most prominent agricultural producing province.
By May 27, sowing of crops had been completed in 77 per cent area whereas this figure is far behind the five-year average area of 91 per cent and the 10-year average area of 89 per cent.
Germination of seeds is happening in a better manner and the moisture content in the soil of the fields is also seen to be higher this time as compared to last year.
According to the Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture, at the provincial level, by May 27, 2024, sowing of peas in 92 per cent area, lentils in 91 per cent, durum wheat in 87 per cent, spring wheat in 84 per cent,
gram (mainly Kabuli) in 78 per cent, mustard in 78 per cent, barley in 76 per cent, canola in 71 per cent, oats in 67 per cent, linseed in 67 per cent, canary seed in 66 per cent and soybean in 51 per cent area had been completed.
Usually, the sowing process of crops in Saskatchewan is completed by mid-June, but this time the pace of sowing is somewhat slow.
The highest 84 per cent sowing is reported to be completed in the south-eastern part of the state, while 83 per cent sowing is reported in the south-western region and 80 per cent in the northwestern region.
Apart from this, 73 per cent sowing has been done in the central-eastern part and 71 per cent in the central western part. The lowest sowing of 68 percent has been done in the northeastern region of the state.
This time, farmers are showing tremendous enthusiasm towards the cultivation of Magar and Masoor, so its sowing has reached its final stage. The rainfall situation is different in different parts of the state, the speed of germination of seeds is normal.
