Non-Basmati Rice Export May Require APEDA Registration
★ To boost rice exports, the government is planning to make registration mandatory for non-basmati rice exports through APEDA. This registration will involve an additional fee of Rs. 10–Rs. 20 per tonne.
★ For basmati rice, the current registration fee of Rs. 30 per tonne may be increased to Rs. 50 per tonne.
★ The funds collected will be used by the government to improve testing facilities and develop new seed varieties.
★ In a meeting with the Ministry of Commerce last week, the government had proposed a Rs. 100 per tonne registration fee on basmati rice. However, following industry opposition, it was settled at Rs. 50 per tonne.
★ The government has also promised to extend the RODTEP scheme (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) until September 30, 2025.
