News Capsule: Heavy overnight rain drenches southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala
★ A developing low-pressure area over the Lakshadweep region has triggered widespread rainfall across the southern peninsula, paving the way for the onset of the north-east monsoon soon.
★ Since Wednesday night, steady rain has lashed the southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Thiruvananthapuram woke up to dense cloud cover and intermittent showers on Thursday morning.
★ According to the weather department, districts such as Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, and Virudhunagar are likely to receive heavy rain, while the hilly areas of western Kerala may see moderate to heavy showers. Rain is expected to reach Chennai and other parts of the Tamil Nadu east coast after a few days.
