Maize Output Expected to Rise 5–10% as Sowing Area Expands
★ Feed industry players estimate that maize production could increase by 5–10% this year due to higher sowing during the current kharif season. So far, maize has been sown on 23.69 lakh hectares — 11% higher than the same period last year.
★ In 2024–25, total maize production reached a record 422.8 lakh tonnes, up 12% from the previous year.
★ For 2025–26, the government has set the minimum support price (MSP) for maize at ₹2,400 per quintal — a 7.8% increase over last year.
★ Demand for maize continues to rise steadily from the livestock feed and ethanol sectors.
★ CLFMA (Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association) has planned a detailed crop survey for maize this year using satellite imagery and ground-level verification.
