Isabgol prices at lowest level: No possibility of recession

New Delhi. Isabgol prices have been on a downward trend for some time and are currently at their lowest level. According to sources, daily arrivals of Isabgol have begun to decline in the markets of major producing centers. Additionally, prices are being quoted Rs. 25–30 per kg lower than last year. At present, Isabgol prices are being quoted at Rs. 100–125 per kg in Naukha, Medta, and Nagaur mandis in Rajasthan, while in Unjha mandi of Gujarat, prices are at Rs.105–130 per kg — Rs. 25–30 less than the previous year.
Decline in arrivals
In April, new crop arrivals had put pressure on prices in producing centers. However, this pressure has now eased. In Unjha mandi, the peak season arrivals were around 24,000–25,000 bags, which have now come down to 6,000–7,000 bags. Similarly, arrivals in Medta, Nagaur, and Naukha mandis have decreased to 3,000–4,000 bags.
Production
Despite lower production of Isabgol in the current season, last year’s high carryover stock has kept prices from rising. In 2023, prices reached a record high of Rs. 255–270 per kg, which led to a record production of 38–40 lakh bags (each bag 70–75 kg) in 2024. However, due to the weak market in 2024, farmers did not receive fair returns, which led to a decline in the sown area. As a result, Isabgol production in 2025 is estimated at 28–30 lakh bags.
No recession likely
Sources say there is little chance of a significant rise in Isabgol prices in the short term, but a sharp fall is also unlikely. The market is expected to move within a soft range of Rs. 3–5 per kg. After July, a price rise of ₹10–15 per kg is possible. With prices already having dropped considerably, further declines may occur in June. Additionally, there are expectations of improved export demand, which could support the market going forward.
