International Cotton Market
ICE cotton futures weakened on Wednesday, with contracts closing 40 to 47 points lower. Crude oil futures fell by 48 cents per barrel, while the U.S. dollar index dropped by $0.614 during the day, mainly following the tariff announcement.
Under President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs, Pakistan will face a 29% tariff, Vietnam 46%, and China 34% (bringing the total to 54% including earlier tariffs). Turkey has been imposed with a 10% baseline tariff. These tariffs will take effect on April 9.
The Seam reported online sales of 21,595 bales on Tuesday, with an average price of 63.75 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index fell by 5 points on April 1, settling at 78.85 cents per pound. ICE cotton stocks remained unchanged on April 1, with certified stock levels at 14,488 bales.
The USDA's Adjusted World Price (AWP) report showed a 97-point decline on Thursday afternoon, bringing it to 53.66 cents per pound.
