Indonesia looking for new markets for palm oil

Jakarta. As the world’s largest producer and exporter of palm oil, Indonesia is actively seeking new markets to strengthen its export base amid uncertainties in traditional markets.
Indonesian palm oil companies are focusing efforts on expanding exports to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to offset any potential disruptions, especially due to the ongoing trade tensions with the United States.
Indonesia holds more than a 50 percent share in global palm oil exports. Recently, the US announced plans to impose a 32 percent import duty on Indonesian products, making it one of the most impacted countries.
Although the US President has granted a 90-day moratorium on this duty, concerns remain over long-term trade relations.
Palm oil is among the key commodities exported by Indonesia to the US. With the tariff implementation on hold, exports will continue temporarily.
However, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) has emphasized the need to secure alternative markets during this window of opportunity to avoid future setbacks.
