Will coriander prices reach 2022 levels?
New Delhi. Coriander prices are rising daily. Given the current situation, it is expected that prices may reach 2022 levels. It is noteworthy that during 2022, coriander prices reached ₹10,500/₹11,500 in the markets of producing centers. Currently, scooter quality prices are being quoted at ₹10,000/₹10,200 per quintal in the markets of Madhya Pradesh.
Five-digit prices
According to one estimate, coriander prices had not yet reached the five-digit level after 2022, but today, coriander prices have reached the five-digit level in the futures and spot markets. Coriander prices in the markets have reached ₹10,000. Whereas the December price in the futures closed at Rs. 10326 and January at Rs. 10146.
Igrain India's Prediction
It is noteworthy that after the year 2023, the production of coriander in the country is decreasing every year. Igrain India had written in January 2025 that the price of coriander could reach the level of 2022. At that time, the price of coriander scooter in the markets was Rs. 7500/7800 and the price of eagle was Rs. 7000/7200 per quintal, while the price of almond was being quoted at Rs. 6800/7000 per quintal. Whereas currently, the price of scooter is Rs. 10000/10200, the price of eagle is Rs. 9400/9600 and the price of almond is Rs. 8800/9200.
Reasons for the Rise
The primary reason for the rise in coriander prices is believed to be the declining production and continued depletion of coriander stocks in the country after 2025. According to trade estimates, coriander production in the country was 16 million bags in 2023, which declined to 11.5 million/12 million bags in 2024, and is projected to further decline to around 10 million bags in 2025. While production is declining, stocks are also dwindling. During the new harvest season in 2024, coriander stocks in the markets of producing centers were estimated to be 40-45 lakh bags, which declined to 35-38 lakh bags in 2025. Trade estimates are that stocks will remain at 15-20 lakh bags during the current season. Furthermore, traders believe that coriander sowing in the country will be lower this year compared to last year.
Slowdown and Rise
Informed sources say that coriander prices have risen by ₹1500/₹1800 per quintal during the current month. This is likely to increase profit-booking in the market. Consequently, prices may decline in the short term, but the future will be positive. Further downturns and rises will be predicted once the sowing situation becomes clearer.
Exports
During the first five months of the current 2025-26 season, April-August 2025, coriander exports amounted to 27,913 tonnes, with export revenue of ₹289.96 crore. During April-August 2024, exports were 25,195 tonnes, with export revenue of ₹262.25 crore. Exports and revenues have increased by 11 percent each in the first five months of the current season. Total coriander exports during 2024-25 were 60,324 tonnes. Whereas in the year 2023-24, the record export was 108624 tonnes.
