Heavy Rains and Cyclonic Storm Forecast for Southern States

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of a severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to make landfall along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha between October 27 and 28. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continues across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karaikal. In the coming days, widespread stormy rain is anticipated in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha. The cyclonic storm is expected to have the most significant impact on the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

The Meteorological Department has already issued warnings for a cyclonic storm and heavy rainfall for the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. It is projected that the storm will reach its peak intensity upon entering Andhra Pradesh on October 27, with rainfall also expected in Telangana on October 28. Odisha is also likely to be affected. Sea conditions in the western and central parts of the Bay of Bengal are expected to become rough, with high, turbulent waves; fishermen have been advised to exercise caution.

A low-pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a full-fledged depression and is now moving toward the eastern coast of India. While this dangerous cyclonic storm could prove destructive, the heavy rainfall it brings may also prove beneficial for the sowing of Rabi crops.
