New Delhi: India, the world’s largest producer of guar and leading exporter of guar gum and guar meal, is expected to maintain a steady export performance of guar meal in the current financial year.
According to data from the Union Commerce Ministry, India exported 1,73,938 tonnes of guar meal during April 2024 to January 2025, just slightly below the 1,76,485 tonnes exported in the same period of 2023–24.
In comparison, 1,65,003 tonnes were exported in the first ten months of 2022–23, and full-year exports rose to 2,07,471 tonnes in 2023–24. The final export figure for 2024–25 is expected to be close to last year’s total, with data for February and March 2025 still awaited.
Monthly exports during 2024–25 include:
April: 18,102 tonnes
May: 27,155 tonnes
June: 15,012 tonnes
July: 23,088 tonnes
August: 14,111 tonnes
September: 15,903 tonnes
October: 25,583 tonnes
November: 10,306 tonnes
December: 16,964 tonnes
January: 17,714 tonnes
Exports declined in most months from April to November compared to the previous year, except in May, but shipments picked up again in December and January.
India grows 70–75% of guar in Rajasthan, while the rest comes from Haryana and Gujarat. Guar is a Kharif crop sown between June and August.
Both guar meal and guar gum see strong demand in global markets, especially in sectors like animal feed, oil drilling, and food processing.
