ICE cotton futures ended Friday’s session 40 to 55 points higher, with the December contract up 44 points for the week. There was little support from outside markets, as crude oil rose just 18 cents per barrel and the U.S. dollar index gained $0.218 to reach 98.310.
On Friday morning, President Trump reiterated that the U.S. will be fine with China ahead of the upcoming leaders’ meeting, and again mentioned that 100% tariffs on China are unsustainable.
Thursday’s online auction from The Seam showed only 155 bales sold at an average price of 63.01 cents per pound. On October 16, the Cotlook A Index rose 25 points to 75.10 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady on October 16 at 16,751 bales. The Adjusted World Price (AWP) is still not being reported due to the government shutdown.
