Claim of Adequate Fertilizer Stock Availability

New Delhi: The Central Government has asserted that an adequate stock of chemical fertilizers is available in the country to meet the demands and requirements of the Kharif season, and that robust arrangements have also been put in place for its distribution.
According to a senior official from the Department of Fertilizers, domestic fertilizer production has improved since the onset of the crisis in West Asia, while regular imports are also being undertaken from various countries across the globe. This is helping to ensure the proper supply and availability of fertilizers within the country.
A comfortable stock of fertilizers is currently available at the national level. For the entire Kharif season this year, the total fertilizer consumption in the country is estimated at 390.54 lakh tonnes, whereas a stock of 200.12 lakh tonnes is currently available.
The existing stock of fertilizers exceeds 50 percent of the total Kharif demand—a figure significantly higher than the typical stock level of 33 percent usually maintained at this time of the year. The Ministry of Agriculture has projected a demand of 390.54 lakh tonnes of fertilizers for the Kharif season, and the government is making every possible effort to meet this target.
