Chances of rain due to cyclonic circulation in South India

The current cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to cause light to moderate rain or thundershowers across many parts of peninsular India, including Chennai. In particular, heavy rainfall is expected in southern Tamil Nadu due to this system.

The Western Disturbance is also contributing to weather changes, with light to moderate rain or snowfall predicted for the Western Himalayan region from January 1 to 3, 2024.

This disturbance will likely continue to bring some light rain or snowfall in the region from January 4 to 6, with heavier precipitation expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 5.

In northern India, including Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, dense fog and cold conditions are anticipated, with occasional light rain possible in the plains from January 4 to 6.

Therefore, the chances of rain in Chennai due to the cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal are moderate, with more substantial rainfall likely in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
