Canada: Pea Production and Export Outlook (AAFC)
2024-25 Season:
★ Canada’s pea exports declined to 2.2 million tonnes, lower than in 2023-24. The main reason was reduced shipments to China and the US, though higher exports to Bangladesh partly offset the fall. Domestic consumption was higher than last year. Slightly higher supply led to increased ending stocks, putting pressure on prices. The average price fell by 12% to USD 405 per tonne.

2025-26 Forecast:
★ Canada’s pea production is projected to rise to 3.56 million tonnes, up by 0.6 million tonnes from the previous year. Total supply is expected to increase by 22% to 4.1 million tonnes. Exports are forecast to remain steady at 2.2 million tonnes, with China, the US, and India as the main buyers. Domestic use is likely to stay unchanged, while ending stocks are expected to rise sharply due to higher supply. As a result, the average price is projected to drop by about 30% to around USD 280 per tonne.
★ In Saskatchewan, yellow pea prices fell by USD 45/t and green pea prices by USD 85/t. Currently, green peas are trading at a USD 140/t premium over yellow peas, compared to a USD 208/t premium last year.

United States:
★ According to the USDA, in 2025-26 the US pea area is expected to increase by 21% to 0.48 million hectares. With better yields and less crop loss, production is forecast to rise by 23% to 0.93 million tonnes. In 2024-25, the US exported about 220,000 tonnes of peas, mainly to Canada, the Philippines, and China.
