Argentina’s Sunflower Production May Hit a Record, Yet Global Demand May Remain Unfulfilled Amid Russia–Ukraine Tensions
★ Argentina’s soybean production in the 2026/27 season is estimated at 525 lakh tonnes, up 4% from the previous year. Soybean crushing is expected to reach 448 lakh tonnes.
★ Sunflower production is projected to hit a record 74 lakh tonnes, with crushing estimated at 60 lakh tonnes. Peanut production may reach 15.6 lakh tonnes.
International Sunflower Oil Demand
★ Despite higher production in Argentina, meeting global sunflower oil demand may remain challenging. Russia–Ukraine tensions and shipping risks in the Black Sea region could disrupt exports despite available stocks.
★ Before trading in sunflower oil, market participants should closely monitor developments in the Black Sea, international news and freight rates. If a ceasefire is reached and shipments return to normal, prices could fall sharply. However, the extent of any decline will depend on global supply and demand.
★ Meanwhile, ample export availability of soybeans and other oilseeds could put pressure on international prices.
