Harvesting of Pulse Crops Nearing Completion in Saskatchewan

Saskatoon. Favorable weather conditions in Saskatchewan—Canada’s premier agricultural province—have provided farmers with an excellent opportunity to accelerate the harvesting of various crops. As a result, the harvesting of pulses and mustard in the province is now largely complete.

It is noteworthy that Saskatchewan is the leading producer of pulses in Canada—including lentils, peas, and chickpeas—followed by the province of Alberta. Saskatchewan is also the primary source for exports of lentils and peas, with India being a major buyer. These crops are also exported to several other nations.

By the beginning of the current week, harvesting had been completed across approximately 97 percent of the agricultural land in Saskatchewan, encompassing both pulses and other crops. At this stage, only a few areas with late-sown crops remain to be harvested. These areas are limited in scope, and the condition of the crops is generally poor. The harvesting campaign in these remaining areas is also expected to conclude shortly.
