Following last week’s US-China meeting, China removed tariffs on several US goods, including the tariff on corn.
According to Monday’s NASS Crop Progress report, as of September 27, 72% of the US corn crop had reached maturity. Harvest was 18% complete and had now caught up with the average pace. Crop conditions remained steady this week, with 57% of the crop rated good to excellent. The Brugler500 index was also unchanged at 347.
According to USDA’s weekly Export Inspections report, US corn exports totaled 1.566 MMT (61.65 million bushels) during the week ending September 24. This was 20.11% lower than the previous week but 1.73% higher than the same week last year. Mexico was the largest destination at 510,846 MT, followed by South Korea at 338,808 MT and Japan at 251,190 MT. Marketing-year corn exports have now reached 5.726 MMT (225.43 million bushels), which is 12.08% above the same period last year.
According to AgRural, 34% of Brazil’s first corn crop had been planted as of Thursday. This is ahead of last year’s 32% pace.
Ahead of Wednesday’s NASS Grain Stocks report, traders surveyed by Bloomberg expect US corn stocks as of September 1 to be 1.911 billion bushels. This would be significantly above last year’s 1.551 billion bushels, but slightly below the USDA WASDE estimate for 2025/26 US corn ending stocks.
