Weekly Review-Tuvar
Tuvar prices continue to fluctuate due to limited demand
Mumbai. During the current week, the prices of Tuvar (Arhar) fluctuated. Demand remained limited in the market and due to sluggish demand for Tuvar dal, the buying by dal millers also remained weak. This kept pressure on the prices of Tuvar. So far this year, a decline of 1.76 lakh hectares has been recorded in the sowing of Tuvar across the country. Karnataka witnessed the maximum decline of 2 lakh hectares, Gujarat 0.42 lakh hectares, Maharashtra 0.09 lakh hectares and Andhra Pradesh 0.19 lakh hectares. The estimated import of Tuvar in the April-June quarter of the financial year 2025–26 was 2,35,368 metric tonnes, as against 2,07,076 metric tonnes in the same period last year. That is, there was an increase of 28,291 tonnes. While there was a strong import in April and May, imports in June were much lower than last year. Myanmar has produced well in the last season and the traders there are trying to export as much as possible before August. This year, production in Africa is expected to be up to 10 lakh tonnes. Harvesting will begin next month and the crop will start arriving in India from the end of August. Currently, the tur market is under pressure, but in view of the fall in sowing, low imports in June and possible limited supply in the coming months, tur prices may strengthen again in the future. Due to weakening of importers' selling and increase in demand, the price of tur lemon in Chennai registered an improvement of Rs 75 per quintal this week and with this improvement, the price reached Rs 6275 per quintal at the weekend.
