Textile industry to gain from repeal of 14 QC orders

New Delhi. The Central Government has withdrawn quality control orders for 14 petrochemical products, which are used extensively as key inputs in sectors ranging from textiles to high-performance plastics.
The repeal of these quality control orders will significantly relieve consumer industries and allow them to access petrochemical products from a variety of sources. This government decision will impact both domestic and import manufacturers alike.
The quality control order required foreign manufacturing companies to obtain certification for their manufacturing facilities and production before selling their products in India.
Even domestic manufacturers had to comply with this requirement, resulting in significant cost and time savings.
It is worth noting that the number of quality control orders increased from fewer than 70 in 2016 to nearly 790 by 2025. Most of these orders were implemented in the last five years.
The specific products covered by the new decision include 100% polyester spun brown and white yarn, polyester industrial yarn, staple fibers, polyvinyl chloride homopolymers, and teresotropic acid.
The government previously announced an export package for the textile and ready-made garment industry on November 12th. This will significantly help Indian exporters cope with US tariffs and boost the textile industry's confidence. Import duty on cotton has already been waived.
