Procurement of fine variety paddy in Telangana reaches new record level

The government of Telangana has achieved a historic milestone in the procurement of fine variety paddy, setting a new record for the first time in a decade.

During the ongoing Kharif marketing season, the state has successfully procured 18 lakh tonnes of fine variety paddy, benefiting approximately 3.36 lakh farmers.

This surge in procurement is attributed to the increased interest among farmers in cultivating fine variety paddy, a trend supported by the state's government policies.

Telangana has become one of the top contributors of paddy rice to India's central pool, with both fine and general category paddy being cultivated on a large scale.

The Central Government has set the minimum support price (MSP) for general paddy at Rs 2300 per quintal and for fine variety paddy at Rs 2300 per quintal, with an additional Rs 20 for 'A' grade fine variety paddy, which brings its MSP to Rs 2320 per quintal for the 2024-25 season. As a result, farmers cultivating fine varieties in Telangana are receiving Rs 2820 per quintal.

The procurement process has been streamlined, ensuring transparency and timely payments to farmers.

Once the fine variety paddy is purchased, it is allocated to rice millers for milling, and the resulting Custom Milled Rice (CMR) is processed.

The government has assured that procurement will continue as long as paddy continues to arrive at government centers, especially from major producing districts across the state.
