New Delhi. Generally, weather and climatic conditions remain favorable for Rabi crop cultivation, and farmers are showing strong interest in sowing major crops, leading to a significant increase in the area under wheat, barley, gram, and mustard.

Weak market prices are the only factor that could partially impact farmers' perceptions and commitment to sowing.

Although mustard, among oilseed crops, is receiving attractive returns due to its wholesale market price being significantly higher than the Minimum Support Price (MSP), thus leading to a significant increase in area under sowing. However, prices for other oilseeds, as well as pulses, are hovering around the MSP.

Sowing of various crops has commenced at a rapid pace in the current Rabi season, which runs from October to December-January.

Adequate stocks of chemical fertilizers have been arranged for farmers. Weather conditions remain favorable, and the soil in the fields has sufficient moisture.

Although the southwest monsoon was very severe in many states, causing heavy rains that damaged Kharif crops, the weather has since cleared, and winter has arrived early.

Farmers are showing great enthusiasm for cultivating wheat, gram, and mustard. The MSP for wheat has been increased by ₹160 to ₹2,585 per quintal, which has pleased farmers.

Acreage is expected to improve. Adequate water reserves are available in dams and reservoirs, ensuring no hindrance to irrigation.

The 30 percent import duty on yellow peas is expected to increase gram sowing. The government will need to focus on starting Rabi crop procurement on time.
