Fenugreek prices rise on news of reduced sowing

14-Nov-2025 07:16 PM

New Delhi. Fenugreek sowing has already begun in major producing states Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. However, due to unattractive prices for fenugreek during the current season, it is expected that fenugreek sowing will decrease by 15-20 percent compared to last year. Consequently, fenugreek prices have risen by ₹400-₹500 per quintal so far this month. Market sentiment remains positive.

Sowing

Informed sources believe that fenugreek sowing at production centers during the current season will be around 1 lakh hectares. While sowing for 2025 was done on 1.30 lakh hectares, the area under fenugreek sowing in 2024 was 1.28 lakh hectares.

Production

During the current season, a slight increase in sowing was observed, along with favorable weather conditions. Consequently, fenugreek production was estimated at 18/19 lakh quintals, compared to 17/18 lakh quintals in 2024. During the current season, fenugreek production in Madhya Pradesh, the leading producer state, was estimated at 8.5/9 lakh quintals. Rajasthan, meanwhile, had 6.5/7 lakh quintals, and Gujarat, 2.5/3 lakh quintals. Although fenugreek production increased during the current season, low stocks at the time of the new harvest reduced overall availability. According to information received, fenugreek stocks at production centers during the new harvest in 2025 were estimated at approximately 1.5 lakh quintals, compared to around 4 lakh quintals in 2024.

Arrivals

Arrivals of fenugreek in Neemuch Mandi, Madhya Pradesh, a major fenugreek-producing state, are generally 1800/2000 bags, while arrivals in Jaora are 1200/1500 bags and in Mandsaur 500/600 bags. Arrivals in Kota Mandi, Rajasthan, are 150/200 bags, and in Nokha 500/600 bags.

Slowdown-Rise

Informed sources say that due to news of poor sowing, fenugreek prices have recently risen by ₹400/500 per quintal. Prices may decline slightly in the short term due to profit-booking and selling, but a significant decline is unlikely. Prices are likely to remain strong in the coming days as new arrivals will begin in March-April. Currently, average quality fenugreek is being quoted at ₹5,000/₹5,700 per quintal in the markets of producing centers.

Exports

In the first five months of the current financial year 2025-26, fenugreek exports increased by 10 percent in volume, but due to low prices, earnings increased by only 3 percent. According to data released by the Spices Board, fenugreek exports during April-August 2025 were 20,409 tons, with export revenue of ₹152.35 crore. During April-August 2024, exports were 18,480 tons, with revenue of ₹147.69 crore. During 2024-25, record fenugreek exports were 44,516 tons, with export revenue of ₹365.89 crore.
