Mumbai. Edible oil stocks at Indian ports and in pipelines decreased in early November due to a significant decline in imports from abroad during October compared to July-August and September.

Furthermore, domestic demand and consumption of edible oils increased significantly in October due to the peak festive season.

According to data compiled by Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SOAI), a leading industry organization, a total of 17.31 lakh tonnes of edible oil stocks were present at ports and in pipelines on November 1, 2025, a decrease of 2.54 lakh tonnes from the 19.85 lakh tonnes available on October 1.

Consequently, edible oil stocks at ports fell from 10.29 lakh tonnes to 10.03 lakh tonnes, and pipeline stocks fell from 9.56 lakh tonnes to 7.28 lakh tonnes.

It is noteworthy that on November 1, 2024, a massive stock of edible oils, totaling 24.08 lakh tonnes, existed at ports with 6.57 lakh tonnes and 17.51 lakh tonnes in pipelines. This stock further increased to 25.69 lakh tonnes in early December 2024.

The Association's latest data shows that India imported approximately 16.59 lakh tonnes of edible oil during September 2025, which declined to 13.28 lakh tonnes in October.

This quantity is more than one lakh tonnes less than the 14.27 lakh tonnes imported in October 2024.

Prior to this, India imported 16.79 lakh tonnes of edible oil in August 2025, 16.17 lakh tonnes in July, and 15.98 lakh tonnes in June.

India consumes more than 20 lakh tonnes of edible oils every month, compared to which the stock was low in the beginning of November but its regular import from abroad continues.
